Party Wall Surveys

FSS are fully qualified to provide Party Wall Surveys and can advise on Party Wall issues. We will serve the appropriate notices and carry out the property inspections as required.

The Party Wall etc. Act 1996 stipulates that if you are planning building work such as construction or alterations which involve:

  • Work on a wall, floor or ceiling shared with another property
  • Building on the boundary with another property
  • Excavating within 3 metres of an adjoining building

You will need to establish if the work falls within the Party Wall etc. Act 1996 and if so notification must be given to adjoining owners under the Act.

This is quite separate from any need for planning permission and/or building regulation approval. The Act is designed to provide a fair solution to the problems that are frequently encountered when building on or adjacent boundaries or in confined areas.

Most of the time a joint surveyor is instructed however if you have received a notice and are not happy with the surveyor appointed we, at Feather Smailes Scales can act on your behalf.
