Lions rugby social media campaign goes viral

A social media campaign by FSS Property to mark the start of the Lions rugby tournament has gone viral on social media attracting thousands of views.

Within hours of being posted on Saturday morning the Lions style team photo had seen by over 5,000 people and shared dozens of times.

FSS Property in Harrogate has always had a strong connection with the sport, with partner Simon Croft being a former captain of Harrogate and Wakefield Rugby clubs and former Yorkshire second row.

But when the firm decided to snap a team photo to wish the British and Irish Lions luck in New Zealand – complete with their own Lion mascot – they had no idea it would be seen by so many people across Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram.

“Team spirit has always been at the heart of our business and our love of sport has a lot to do with that,” said partner Richard Smailes.

“We regularly sponsor rugby and sport related events and are also sponsors of the football first team of our local high school, St Aidan’s.”

Richard Smailes said the idea for a team photo for the Lions tournament had been inspired by the company’s team ethic.

“On Facebook we posted the photo with the strapline ‘One Team, Five Disciplines’ promoting the fact that we are the only firm in Harrogate to specialise in five areas of property – residential sales, lettings, commercial, auctions and surveys,” added Richard.

“We’re delighted the photo was enjoyed by so many people and are grateful to the FSS team for being up for the challenge – especially our auction secretary Debbie Weightman-Brown who dressed up in a lion’s outfit on one of the hottest days of the year!”
